Sterling Middle School issued the following announcement on March 9

The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

School Board Chair Jeff Morse (Dulles District), Vice Chair Ian Serotkin (Blue Ridge District), Atoosa Reaser (Algonkian District), Harris Mahedavi (Ashburn District), John Beatty (Catoctin District), Tom Marshall (Leesburg District) and Brenda L. Sheridan (Sterling District) attended the meeting at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn. Andrew Hoyler (Broad Run District) attended virtually.

The School Board approved four action items during this meeting: Various proclamations and resolutions, including Equity in Education Month, Women's History Month, Music in Our Schools Month, and Social Emotional Learning Day; Revision of Policy 8030, Student Discrimination and Harassment (Former Policy 8-6); Revision of Policy 8035, Title IX, Sex-Based Discrimination, Sexual Harassment (Former Policy 8-6); and Revision of Policy 5320, Procedures for Location of Self-Contained Special Education Programs (Former Policy 5-58).

The School Board heard nine information items:

  • Superintendent Dr. Scott Ziegler presented the Superintendent's Operational Update.
  • Chief Operations Officer Kevin Lewis presented the Abbreviated Attendance Zone Change Process for the Reserve at Holly Springs.
  • Mr. Lewis also presented Current Elementary School Students Affected by Attendance Zone Changes – Policy 8160 Survey Results for Certain Rising Grade Five Students.
  • Mrs. Reaser and Division Council Robert Falconi presented Revisions to Policy 2160, Conflict of Interests and Disclosure of Economic Interests.
  • Chief Financial Officer Sharon Willoughby presented the Revision of Policy 4150, Financial Accounting and Reporting.
  • Mrs. Willoughby also detailed the Revision of Policy 4350, Vendor Relations.
  • Mrs. Willoughby outlined the Adoption of Policy 4360, Small, Women-Owned, Minority-Owned, and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses.
  • In addition, Mrs. Willoughby outlined the Adoption of Policy 8020, Relations with School Support Organizations.
  • Chair Morse presented the Month of the Military Child Proclamation.
Ellie Schubert, of Rock Ridge High School; Aaron Weidner, of Freedom High School; and Diana Altenhof, of Stone Bridge High School, were introduced as the student School Board members.

Six middle schools, Belmont Ridge, J. Michael Lunsford, Mercer, Seneca Ridge, Smart’s Mill and Trailside were honored for being redesignated as National Schools to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. Loudoun County Public Schools has been named a National Schools to Watch District in response to all eligible middle schools receiving the designation of a National School to Watch and their support of middle school-aged students.

Students from Hamilton Elementary, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, led the Pledge of Allegiance. These students included Ella Brantley, Denver Welch, Arthur Hertzberg and Jeremiah Haggard.

The Potomac Falls High School Guitar Quartet performed the National Anthem. Students performing included Angelica Franco Brito, Sebastian Gutierrez Sandoval, Pranet Ok and Esteban Olivares.
