Loudoun County law enforcement is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on its pharmaceutical “Take-Back” initiative to be held Saturday, Oct. 24.
The "Take Back" initiative is aimed at getting unused narcotics out of the homes of those who no longer need them so they are not at risk of being stolen or abused. Opioid abuse in particular, historically through prescription painkillers, has been an increasing problem in Virginia for some time with overdose rates increasing by 400% over the past 20 years.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Leesburg Police Department and the Town of Purcellville Police Department are teaming up to offer disposal at the locations below on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Ashburn Station - 20272 Savin Hill Drive, Ashburn
- Dulles South Public Safety Center - 25216 Loudoun County Parkway, South Riding
- Eastern Loudoun Sheriff’s Station - 46620 E. Frederick Dr., Sterling
- Western Loudoun Station - 47 W. Loudoun St., Round Hill
- Town of Leesburg Police Department - 65 Plaza St., NE, Leesburg
- Town of Purcellville Police Department - 125 Hirst Rd., Suite 7-A Purcellville
Unacceptable items include needles, thermometers, batteries, IV bags, blood or infectious waste, liquids, gels or sprays.
