Mental Health First Aid and Suicide Prevention Trainings Scheduled in April

Loudoun County’s mental health education and substance abuse prevention programs scheduled for April include Question, Persuade and Refer, a suicide prevention training, and Mental Health First Aid. 

Question, Persuade and Refer

Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) is a suicide prevention training that teaches three simple yet powerful steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide - Question, Persuade and Refer.

People trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to the help they need. 

QPR can be learned in a free, 60-minute virtual training course. The next class is scheduled: 

  • Monday, April 18, 2022, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid

Anyone interested in having a better understanding of mental illness is encouraged to sign up for the next Adult Mental Health First Aid training offered by Loudoun County . 

The class is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20 & Thursday, April 21,  6:00 - 9:00 p.m. each day. 

The free classes cover: 

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness.
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use.
  • How to interact with a person in crisis.
  • How to connect the person with help.

Other Prevention/Intervention Programs

Loudoun County offers ongoing mental health education and substance abuse prevention trainings, including REVIVE!, the opioid reversal training, and Adverse Childhood Experiences, which offers ways to prevent traumatic childhood experiences that can impact people into adulthood, causing issues such as chronic health problems, mental illness and substance use problems.
