Post-Election Audit of Loudoun General Election Ballots Set for February 23

Lc

Loudoun County issued the following announcement on Feb. 19.

Loudoun County election officials will conduct a post-election audit  of ballots cast in the November 2020 general election Tuesday, February  23, 2021, from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Members of the public are invited  to watch and participate remotely through the Webex platform. Details on  how to participate may be found at loudoun.gov/remoteparticipation

The  audit in Loudoun is part of the statewide “Risk-Limiting Audit” of  ballot scanner machines being conducted by the Virginia Department of  Elections in partnership with Voting Works, a nonprofit organization.  Local election officials and observers appointed by local political  parties participate in the audits.

“The audit helps support the  integrity of the election process. It uses a random sample of voted  ballots to manually look for evidence that the originally reported  outcome of the election is correct,” said Loudoun General Registrar Judy  Brown. “Unfortunately, this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we  cannot have the general public watch in person, but they will be able to  observe the audit remotely.”

More information about election security and past audits is available from the Virginia Department of Elections
