A Reston, Virginia man was the third defendant to plead guilty to his role in a drug-related slaying in Fairfax back in 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice said.
Charles Anthony Forbes, 30, of Reston, pleaded guilty on Dec. 18, 2020 to using a gun to execute the drug-related murder, a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia reported.
In March, Fredy Fabian Alfaro, 36, of Reston, and Jimmie Marcel McCray, 36, of Sterling, also pleaded guilty to their roles in the murder. The duo pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the murder over a dispute regarding marijuana.
Court documents reveal that from January through April of 2018, Alfaro planned to move marijuana with Michael Cooker and others in an effort to ship marijuana from California. They planned on moving marijuana to Northern Virginia to sell the product, court documents said, the news release reported.
Police say that in April of 2018, Alfaro and Cooker had a dispute over the profits. Alfaro and Cooker continued their conflict through a series of texts. On April 18, 2018, Alfaro called McCray and told him he would pay him to harm Cooker.
After a planned journey with Cooker, Forbes pulled over on the roadside and shot Cooker twice in the head, which reportedly killed him, the news release said. Forbes left the body on the side of the road and drove away.
Alfaro was sentenced to 21 years in prison and McCray was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Nov. 6, 2020. Forbes faces a maximum term of life in prison when he is sentenced on April 9.
