Fauquier County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Nov. 25.
We have taken many reports of scams of different types, but the story is always the same!
No government agency or reputable company will ever ask you to make a payment with gift cards! Nor will they try to enforce payment over the phone!
DO NOT purchase gift cards for someone you do not know and DO NOT give your personal information to a stranger on the phone!
We all have a responsibility to look out for and educate our older generation of citizens and family! DO NOT fall victim to these scams, HANG UP THE PHONE and call us!
