The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) now has 74 body-worn cameras for its program that began five years ago, according to a news release.
The office expanded the number of cameras to the maximum number it could without requiring a budget increase, the news release stated. LCSO has also begun a study to look at the usage of the camera in adult detention centers.
The study will be conducted by the CNA Center for Justice Research and Innovation and the National Sheriffs’ Association. It will look at how the technology impacts outcomes such as safety, the prevalence of serious events and misconduct and violence by inmates.
“The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has taken great efforts to build trust with all members of our community,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said in the news release. “The additional Body Worn Cameras will further enhance the mutual respect between our deputies and each and every resident they encounter,” added Sheriff Chapman.
The office now has 74 body-worn cameras for patrol duties, 317 in-car cameras and 66 body-worn cameras for corrections deputies, the news release states.
