Belmont ranked ninth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Belmont ranked ninth among cities in Virginia by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Belmont residents was an inflation-adjusted $83,522 per year. Belmont had 1,820 households in 2017, with a population of 6,563.

The city with the highest median resident income in the state was McLean. McLean's median income was $89,224 per year after adjusting for inflation – $5,702 more than Belmont. It had 16,506 households in 2017 and a population of 47,305.

Emory had the lowest annual resident income among cities in Virginia, with a median income of only $4,856 per year. That was $78,666 less than the median income in Belmont at the time. Emory had 229 households in 2017 and a population of 1,237.
