U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam, a member of the House Oversight Committee, issued a statement on Apr. 2 following reports that Attorney General Pam Bondi was fired by President Trump.
The development is significant due to ongoing concerns about leadership at the Department of Justice and its role in upholding legal standards and public trust.
Subramanyam said, “Pam Bondi may go down as one of the worst AGs in history. She openly violated the law repeatedly and aided one of the most corrupt administrations in modern history. She spent most of her time trying to weaponize the agency against anyone the President didn’t like, and she fired countless career prosecutors for simply following the law and upholding the Constitution. I had called for her impeachment, but this works too.”
He continued by addressing Bondi’s dismissal: “Despite all this, it appears she was fired for not passing enough loyalty tests. The Senate should reject the confirmation of any replacement who continues this administration’s lawlessness.”
Subramanyam also emphasized that Bondi remains accountable to Congress: “Pam Bondi may be leaving the Department of Justice, but she must still follow the law and respond to the Oversight Committee’s subpoena to be deposed about covering up Epstein files. I have a lot of questions. The American people deserve answers, and the Epstein survivors deserve justice.”
Bondi’s departure from office raises questions about future leadership at the Department of Justice as well as ongoing investigations referenced by members of Congress.
