U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam, who serves Virginia’s 10th congressional district and is a member of the DOGE Oversight Subcommittee, released a statement on Mar. 11 regarding allegations that a former DOGE staff member took sensitive Social Security Administration data with plans to share it with their private employer.
The issue raises concerns about the security of personal information held by government agencies and the potential risks posed when employees move between public service and private sector jobs.
Subramanyam said, “This damning allegation must be thoroughly investigated as soon as possible. This is not the first complaint we have heard about DOGE employees attempting to access sensitive information. We have been warning for more than a year that the motives of DOGE employees were not clear. While DOGE promised to cut waste, fraud and abuse, they instead have jeopardized Americans’ safety and security.”
He also called for further action from his subcommittee: “Our DOGE subcommittee should speak with the whistleblower and hold a hearing. We must ensure those responsible are held accountable, and make sure something like this never happens again.”
The situation highlights ongoing concerns about oversight within government departments handling sensitive data. The next steps may include hearings or investigations by relevant congressional committees.
