Michael Webert, a Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates, made several statements on social media in early August 2025 regarding labor unions, immigration policies, and partisan gerrymandering.

On August 4, 2025, Webert wrote: “Labor unions prevent child slavery…. Democrats encourage it with open border policies. In fact they undermine everything Unions fight for by encouraging illegal immigration and under the table labor.”

The following day, August 5, 2025, he posted: “I wonder if this is the immigrant population my Democrat colleagues lump together to protect from getting deported? Will they bring signs supporting him to not be deported?”

On August 6, 2025, Webert commented on political districting practices: “No one knows more about partisan gerrymanders than Illinois Democrats.”

Michael Webert has represented Virginia’s 18th district since 2012. His remarks reflect ongoing national debates over immigration policy and its relationship with labor standards. Accusations concerning partisan gerrymandering have been frequent in recent years across various states; Illinois has often been cited in discussions about redistricting practices.
