Loudoun County launches AI-powered tool for resident inquiries

Loudoun County has introduced a new online tool, “Ask Loudoun County,” aimed at improving communication between the local government and residents. The service uses artificial intelligence alongside county staff expertise to provide information around the clock.

Residents can access the tool by clicking on the Ask Loudoun County icon found on the lower left corner of loudoun.gov. After submitting an inquiry—such as asking about obtaining a marriage license—the AI responds promptly, often linking users to more detailed resources on the county website. The system can also generate video responses from county subject matter experts or offer follow-up via email or phone if necessary.

County Administrator Tim Hemstreet said, “The implementation of this technology demonstrates our commitment to continually improving Loudoun County government’s engagement with members of the community in our ongoing effort to keep the public informed about county programs and services and the business of the Board of Supervisors. Our goal is to be responsive and transparent and to answer questions from residents as quickly as possible.”

This tool is intended as an additional resource rather than a replacement for existing communication channels. Residents may continue using other options such as the Loudoun Express Request (LEX) system, social media accounts, email, or direct calls to departments. Contact details for various departments are available at loudoun.gov/ContactUs.

To remain updated, residents are encouraged to follow official social media accounts and subscribe for notifications via email or text through loudoun.gov/NotifyMe and loudoun.gov/alert. Board of Supervisors newsletters are also available through sign-up links provided on each member’s webpage at loudoun.gov/BOS.
