Loudoun County Transit will raise fares for commuter bus routes traveling to Crystal City, Rosslyn, the Pentagon, and Washington, D.C. starting December 1, 2025. The fare for a one-way trip with a SmarTrip card will be $12; cash payments will cost $13. This change comes in response to increasing operational costs.
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the fare adjustment during the Transit Summit held on May 29, 2024. According to county officials: “The one-way fare with a SmarTrip card will be $12, while payments made with cash will be $13.”
Commuters who ride Loudoun County buses at least twice per week are eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home program from Commuter Connections. This service offers up to six free emergency rides home each year in cases of illness, family emergencies, or unscheduled overtime.
Riders can find updates about changes to bus services by visiting loudoun.gov/BusChanges or subscribing to email and text alerts at loudoun.gov/BusBiz. The Transit app is also available for download on Google Play and the Apple Store. Riders can set favorite routes in the app to receive notifications specific to their commutes.

Loudoun County Public Schools District enrolled over 82,000 students during the 2023-24 school year according to state education data (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Among its schools, Independence High School had the highest enrollment that year with more than 2,000 students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Demographic figures show that white students comprised about 40% of total enrollment while Asian students accounted for roughly a quarter (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).
