Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) announced that students from the Academies of Loudoun Graphic Communications program won a team gold medal at the 60th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to LCPS, students from the Academies of Loudoun Graphic Communications program earned this distinction during the event held from June 23 to June 27. Nineteen students participated in five contests, with senior Mariam Fuseini serving as a national voting delegate and state officer. Additionally, seven other students contributed over 65 hours of community service as part of the national Courtesy Corps.
The team consisting of Samir Bahl, Isabella Miranda, and Saira Khan secured first place in the Career Pathways Showcase in Arts & Communication for their project titled “Waddle.” This project proposed an app designed to enhance the job search process for teenagers based on surveys and business partner input. SkillsUSA is recognized as the nation’s largest workforce development organization, engaging over 18,000 participants annually through competitions aimed at developing career skills, leadership, and community responsibility.
The Academies of Loudoun offer STEM-focused education for students with an emphasis on exploration, research, collaboration, and innovation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The school serves a diverse student population across Loudoun County and provides integrated coursework designed to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, design, and collaborative skills.
