Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) has announced the appointment of Dr. Fredericka Mack as the principal of the newly established R.I.S.E. Academy. The academy is a program designed to support students recovering from substance-use disorders while they complete their high school diplomas.
According to LCPS, Mack’s background includes her upbringing in Chicago and guidance from teachers and family, which she cites as influences on her career in education. Professionally, she has served in various educational roles, including as principal at North Spring Academy, assistant director at Grafton Integrated Health Network, homebound teacher, special education teacher at Dominion High School, and assistant principal at Tuscarora High School. At R.I.S.E. Academy, Mack will oversee academic and recovery support for students.
“For me, the R.I.S.E. Academy puts forward the message that every student deserves a future full of possibilities despite their circumstances,” said Mack. She added that the academy is not just a school but a community where students feel seen, valued, and supported. “Once students go home, the care and overlap have to continue,” Mack said. She emphasized the importance of family involvement in continuing recovery work when students return home.
LCPS, headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia, provides comprehensive information on its operations through various resources such as calendars and administrative contacts. The district also maintains detailed enrollment and achievement data through District and School Profiles that include demographics and standardized test scores. Virginia’s School Quality Profiles complement these reports by offering insights into student achievement and other key metrics. LCPS is led by Superintendent Aaron Spence and governed by an elected School Board responsible for policy-making and strategic planning.
