Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) has announced the launch of its Recovery School program, now officially named the Recovery, Inspiration, Strength, and Empowerment Academy, or R.I.S.E. Academy.
According to a news release by LCPS, the R.I.S.E. Academy is a specialized program designed for high school students recovering from substance use disorders. It provides a structured and supportive environment where students can continue their education while receiving care tailored to their recovery needs. The academy is co-located at North Star School in Leesburg and staffed by LCPS educators and professionals trained to address both academic and emotional development. Intake assessments guide personalized support, and students meet daily with mental health staff, including counselors, social workers, and student assistance specialists, supported by community providers.
Academically, students follow a schedule aligned with their home schools to allow seamless transitions if they return. The academy offers small class sizes and a full team of licensed teachers, including special education staff. Additionally, it engages families through monthly events and informational sessions to support learning at home. An open house this fall will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and opportunities to meet staff and tour the facility.
Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence said in the news release that “this program is a direct reflection of LCPS’ deep commitment to student wellness and equity.” He added that “we recognize that recovery is a personal and courageous journey,” expressing pride in providing “a space where students can heal, grow, feel seen and supported while working towards achieving their goals.”
Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia, provides comprehensive information on its operations through District and School Profiles. These profiles include demographics, graduation rates, Standards of Learning (SOL) pass rates, standardized test scores, and federal accountability metrics. Virginia’s School Quality Profiles (SQPs) complement these reports by offering annual snapshots and multi-year trends on student achievement, college and career readiness, school safety, and teacher quality. LCPS is led by Superintendent Aaron Spence and governed by an elected School Board responsible for policy-making and strategic planning.
