Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) has announced that twelve of its schools have been awarded the Purple Star designation for the 2025-26 academic year. This recognition comes from the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children.
According to LCPS, these twelve schools have been honored as Purple Star Schools due to their support for military-connected students and families. Among them, seven are first-time recipients, four are receiving the award for a second time, and Trailside Middle School has earned it for the third time. The designation is valid for three years. These schools join thirteen other LCPS schools previously recognized, all maintaining their Purple Star status through their respective current cycles.
The Purple Star program within LCPS includes staff training, community involvement, and initiatives designed to support students navigating school transitions or family deployments. Schools with this designation implement programs aimed at addressing both academic and social-emotional needs, ensuring military-connected students receive tailored resources and support throughout their education.
“I’m incredibly proud of our division’s ongoing commitment to supporting military-connected students,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence. “Earning the Purple Star designation is both an honor and a reflection of the compassion, dedication, and inclusive spirit that define LCPS.”
LCPS is headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia, and provides comprehensive information on its operations, including calendars, school hours, parent resources, and administrative contacts. The district maintains detailed enrollment and achievement data through District and School Profiles, which include demographics, graduation rates, Standards of Learning (SOL) pass rates, standardized test scores, and federal accountability metrics. Virginia’s School Quality Profiles (SQPs) complement these reports by offering annual snapshots and multi-year trends on student achievement, college and career readiness, school safety, and teacher quality. LCPS is led by Superintendent Aaron Spence and governed by an elected School Board responsible for policy-making and strategic planning.
