Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) announced that reports from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) dated August 27 indicate LCPS students have continued to improve on the 2025 Standards of Learning (SOL) tests.
According to LCPS, student SOL proficiency rates improved or remained stable across all subjects for the 2024–2025 academic year. English Reading rose to 82%, English Writing held at 90%, History and Social Sciences increased to 86%, Mathematics reached 82%, and Science climbed to 80%. These improvements are attributed to school support systems, division initiatives, educators’ efforts, and strong family partnerships. LCPS reportedly outpaced Virginia in every subject area.
Subgroup data show that students with disabilities improved in all subjects, English learners saw modest increases, and economically disadvantaged students also experienced gains. Pass rates for students with disabilities in English Reading rose from 50% in 2021–2022 to 53% in 2024–2025, while Mathematics improved from 45% to 54%. The district emphasizes its ongoing commitment to closing achievement gaps and ensuring all students have resources and opportunities to reach their full potential.
Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence said, “We are seeing the results of our collective focus on belonging, high-quality instruction, and targeted supports for students.” He added that these gains demonstrate what is possible when there is a commitment to meeting the needs of every learner. Spence expressed gratitude towards teachers, staff, leaders, families, and community partners for their dedication.
LCPS is headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia. It provides comprehensive information on its operations including calendars, school hours, parent resources, and administrative contacts. The district maintains detailed enrollment and achievement data through District and School Profiles which include demographics, graduation rates, SOL pass rates, standardized test scores, and federal accountability metrics. Virginia’s School Quality Profiles complement these reports by offering annual snapshots and multi-year trends on student achievement among other metrics. LCPS is led by Superintendent Aaron Spence and governed by an elected School Board responsible for policy-making and strategic planning.
