Geary Higgins, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, said that student safety must take precedence over politics. He defended the Loudoun County boys who were suspended over locker room concerns and joined Winsome Sears in supporting parents. This statement was made on X.
“WATCH: My speech at yesterday’s press conference standing up for students and parents, and calling for an END to the INSANITY,” said Higgins, Candidate. “Together with our next Governor, Winsome Sears, we spoke out in defense of the Loudoun HS boys who have been suspended for not wanting to change in front of a girl. Boys and girls deserve to feel safe and comfortable at school, and radical left-wing politics should never come before student safety.”
In 2025, Loudoun County Public Schools faced national scrutiny after the U.S. Department of Education labeled it and four other districts as “high-risk” due to their transgender-inclusive bathroom and locker room policies. According to Politico, this designation requires these districts to prepay federal education costs and threatens more than $50 million in funding. School leaders argue that state law and court precedent mandate them to uphold protections for transgender students.
A notable disciplinary case in 2025 involved two Stone Bridge High School students who were suspended for ten days after questioning a transgender student’s use of a boys’ locker room. The New York Post reported that school officials classified the incident as sex-based harassment under Title IX, prompting Attorney General Jason Miyares to call it a misuse of the law and escalate the matter to federal authorities.
Public opinion on school gender policies in Virginia reflects broader national divides. According to PRRI polling cited in Wikipedia, 54% of Americans support requiring transgender individuals to use bathrooms corresponding to their sex at birth, while 40% oppose such laws. This division is mirrored in Virginia’s debates on student safety and privacy.
