Brookside Rehab & Nursing Center was recognized as Fauquier County’s largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reveals.

The center made 130 beds available, surpassing the Fauquier County average by eight beds as of the first quarter of 2026. It cared for an average of 119.3 residents a day over those three months.

The CMS awarded Brookside Rehab & Nursing Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which is lower than the statewide Virginia average rating of 3 for nursing homes.

Poplar Hill Health and Rehab was ranked as the second largest local nursing facility during the quarter, providing 113 available beds.

Brookside Rehab & Nursing Center accrued $146,073 in two fines and received two penalties by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

Fauquier County, Virginia, was home to two for-profit nursing facilities in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the national older adult population continues its upward trend as younger groups decline in size. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, while those younger than 18 dropped by 1.7%. The country’s senior population has ballooned during the past century, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

Research from 2021 estimates that nearly half of this demographic, totaling approximately 28 million people, will require long-term services and supports. The study additionally predicts that more than a third will likely need to reside in a nursing home during their lifetimes.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
