Terry Schilling, President of the American Principles Project, expressed his support for Jason Miyares in the Virginia Attorney General race. Schilling said he backs Miyares because of his defense of parental rights and support for families across various policy areas.
“Jason Miyares is a smart attorney general who has been unafraid to fight to protect our children and parental rights,” said Schilling. “For every issue from health care to education, Jason Miyares has our back!”
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has been actively involved in advocating for parental rights at the national level. According to a press release from Miyares’ office, he led a 16-state coalition in filing an amicus brief before the U.S. Supreme Court in July 2024. The brief urged the court to affirm parents’ fundamental authority over decisions concerning their children’s welfare.
Miyares has also focused on issues related to collegiate sports. NBC10 Local News reported that his office found Roanoke College violated the Virginia Human Rights Act and Title IX by allowing a transgender female swimmer to compete on the women’s team. This decision was said to have denied biological female athletes equal opportunity and caused emotional harm, allowing those athletes to seek legal relief.
According to Ballotpedia, the upcoming Virginia Attorney General election is set for November 4, 2025. Incumbent Republican Jason Miyares will run for re-election against Democrat Jerrauld (Jay) Jones, who won his party’s nomination in the June 17 primary. The Republican primary was canceled as Miyares was unopposed on the ballot. This election is considered a battleground race due to its competitive nature.
Schilling leads the American Principles Project (APP), a conservative think tank advocating for family-centered policies. His biography on the APP website notes that he oversees strategic planning and political operations and played a key role in launching the “Big Family” initiative aimed at countering progressive influence in education and culture. Under Schilling’s leadership, APP has become more active in federal and state-level campaigns promoting parental rights and religious freedom.
